With more and more development in zkEVM, expect GameFi to finally become more entertaining

If GameFi is criticized for one thing it’s that NFT games are not fun and people play them just for passive income.

And 99% of the time, this is actually true. Get me the most exciting NFT game and I could think of a hundred web2 games that are more interesting.

This all falls on the fact that Web3 and blockchain tech doesn't have the capability to process the same amount of information at the same speed that Web2 games do. But with zkEVM advancements on the way, this might change pretty soon.

If we ever want to see exciting NFT games with good graphics and mechanics, then we have to look at L2s.

L2s are the only way we can get decent games on Ethereum, specifically, L2s that provide zkEVMs.

Right now there are some L2s developing in the zkEVM space. ZkSync has a high-level-language equivalent EVM but that alone won’t cut it. Developers will still have a hard time developing complicated and sophisticated games.

A fully-equivalent EVM is what we need. Currently, only Polygon working on that and it’s open source and completely separate from their PoS chain meaning it borrows its security from Ethereum.

The more L2s start following suit, the more sophisticated, complex, and entertaining Web3 games will become.

I see a lot of potential in GameFi if we actually start developing the capacity to create games with mechanics and graphics on par with Web2
