The crypto community responded more swiftly to the war in Ukraine than to the earthquake victims in Turkey/Syria

I would like to make reference to two separate events that have occurred in the recent past. The first one being the invasion of Ukraine by Russia in February of 2022, and the second one being the deadly series of earthquakes that rocked Turkey and Syria on 6th of February this year. Both of these unfortunate events led to the destruction of livelihoods, loss of lives, and the deaths of loved ones. Both are unfortunate events and require the utmost attention.

Now, I'd like to draw your attention to how the global community responded to these events, especially the crypto community. Within 4 days of Russia's invasion, crypto donations to Ukraine had hit more than $22 million worth of crypto assets. This is a stark contrast to the meagre $3.1 million worth of crypto that has so far been donated towards earthquake victims in Turkey/Syria in the last 3 days. I really hope the donations keep pouring in.

I am just perplexed at the discrepancy in the urgency of the response from the crypto community with regards to the amount of donations going to the earthquake victims in Turkey/Syria, compared to the donations that went to the war in Ukraine.

My biggest source of worry is the fact that the crypto community's response is somewhat consistent with the global community's response. This time last year, countries around the world were already pledging billions of dollars towards the war in Ukraine. However, the reaction of those same countries to the events of the last few days leaves much to be desired. For example, I'll quote from an article by CBS news:

UNHCR was already seeking $348 million to help [victims] in Turkey alone, but says so far, international donors have pledged only 11% of that figure.
