Mod of /r/EthTrader here, we just took our community private moments ago. I didn't see any discussion on /r/Ethereum about joining in on the protest so I thought I'd post this summary of recent events.
Thousands of subreddits are joining in on the protest. Including other leading top ethereum subreddits EthTrader and EthFinance. We are protesting these awful new reddit policies which will kill off third party reddit clients amongst other things. See here for more information.
In interacting with third party developers, the Reddit CEO /u/spez has also been accused of being a liar and slanderer as explained here and here.
Reddit as a company also lied to developers more broadly, saying pricing for their API would be fair and that they would talk to developers about these changes. Another lie as exposed on reddit's own AMA on the matter. Reddit never reached out to developers, their new pricing structure is wholly unaffordable and reddit did not reach out to developers like they said they would and in-fact outright ignored them.
Reddit is putting greed first and user experience second. Their CEO once said this:
“I think the problem Digg had is that it was a company that was built to be a company, and you could feel it in the product. The way you could criticise Reddit is that we weren't a company – we were all heart and no head for a long time. So I think it'd be really hard for me and for the team to kill Reddit in that way.”
