At approximately 1 PM EST today, Reddit released the 3rd generation of their collectibles. It was a much anticipated event, and many rushed to the shop and pulled out their credit cards to make huge purchases. 3 minutes later, users were met with "Error: cannot complete purchase" messages.
As it turns out, Reddit shop is officially shut down. It appears the shut down is the consequence of hiring Solana developers to deploy the smart contracts and minting features. Reddit co-founder Alex Ohanian had this to stay, "We are a web3 company, and we wanted our users to feel the same pain that Solana users feel on a weekly basis, so we thought hiring their developers would be a great idea for our most anticipated launch of the year."
There is no update on when the shop will reopen, but we know one thing, it's bound to crash the second it comes up again.
