Recently read through https://www.reddit.com/r/ethereum/comments/sfn1pg/why_the_hell_are_you_still_on_layer_one/ and yeah, I want to switch to L2. My main bottleneck is users willing to pay transaction costs to interact with my dApp.
But for dApp developers, choosing the right L2 is extremely important. People like permanence because the state, progression, and achievements that's made will continue to be there and be a global source of truth. Nobody cares what you did on an L2 that is dead or is dying (not that any of them are now).
Presumably, Loopring, zkSync, Optimistic, and Arbitrum are not all going to be equally popular in the long run. Eventually, one of them will win out as the place where every dApp that doesn't need Eth mainnet's security model will live. So there will probably only be one winner 10 years out from now.
Some considerations I have are:
What will gain the most layman user adoption (ie, people that just want to play games or do something casual with crypto)?
What works the best on-top of Ethereum, such at a 2x improvement to Ethereum mainnet yields a 10x improvement to them?
How easy is it to just take existing Solidity smart contract code and deploy there?
How un-decentalized are they (did they have some sketchy venture-based IPO before launch?)
I'd love to hear your pick for the best long-term L2 solution. Thanks!
