Nicehash rant if you would indulge it.

Just to preface, I don't expect solutions but just want to publicly warn people away from their service.

I had a 10+ year old account, roughly 0.002 BTC that I forgot about. The old phone with the 2FA is bricked due to battery damage. No problem I think, I had 4 unused 2FA backup codes, which are single use.

Website bugs out, requiring all 4 of the codes before it works. Still no problem I think, once I am logged in I will be withdrawing all the funds.

I go to withdraw, it wants 2FA. No problem I think, I can just reset my 2FA in settings. Turns out you cannot access account settings until you complete the transition, aka give them KYC info.

I email the 2fa and support emails, asking both for help with resetting or disabling 2FA. I told them point blank I know the codes are one use only. They respond within 15 minutes, telling me there is an admin fee for doing so, and send an invoice to my account. Annoying because I paid a monthly storage already, but tolerable.

However said invoice cannot be accessed, because their website again forcibly redirects to the transition page, despite my account being logged in.

In a follow up email I ask for the amount, which turns out to be 0.00005BTC and they say it can be deducted directly from my wallet, rather than providing any assistance with just accessing my account settings. They also explain this process requires KYC, which at no point prior was even mentioned.

Just to be clear, KYC is no actual protection in this case because said account has no existing ties to my legal ID. I could claim it with a strangers ID if they used my email account.

Nicehash is clearly capable of easily disabling 2FA, but will not do it without holding some of your funds hostage, and forcing you to give up personal info. Exactly why I was trying to withdraw and close my account in the first place. I see no reason they should be trusted with my ID and proof of address, but I imagine others with larger wallets may be tempted to risk it.
