MYST claim top 5 Ethereum DApp status with Polygon launch and announce open-source Web3 privacy protocol

Hey all, there are some exciting developments announced on the new Mysterium website i’d like to share. If you are interested in researching alts with products you can try out, perhaps you might enjoy this post!

The Old:

Mysterium’s live product is an open-source, blockchain powered VPN which is rather successful at 300k+ downloads on the Google Play Store. The VPN works as you may imagine, users can host nodes on almost any hardware (with good internet) and get rewarded in their native token ($MYST) and other cryptos.

Mysterium have claimed on their social channels that they will instantly enter the market as a top 5 Ethereum DApp. Pretty bold!

So after doing a bit of research and getting clarification from the team, the claims actually seem actually reasonable......

Here is the ETH testnet for local token payouts and VPN topups. 458,938 holders with 1.5m transfers. Not bad!

Testnet transactions are NOT included when ranking DApp’s on sites like dappradar

These figures also currently don’t include the millions of micro-payments that have to happen off-chain due to ETH network costs which will soon become on-chain once the network switch to Polygon is fully live. This is reasonable and smart IMO due to gas prices currently.

With over 70k daily active sessions, the Mysterium VPN alone would rank at the #5-#6 slot for 24h users in ETH DApp’s and #2 for non-gaming DApp’s. Pretty frickin cool! For a <20m project that’s been at it since 2016.

The New:

There are 2 things (apart from mainnet) that are teased on the new site:

1. a Web3 privacy protocol: This will allow apps and dapps to plug into a privacy network making anything online immune to censorship resistance. Tons of use cases for this include trading, gambling, crypto gaming, and anything else you can’t access due to a crappy government or just to protect your fundamental right to privacy ????
2. Tokenomics re-work: Fairly light on details currently but adding staking and some “modern” crypto additions are much needed in this current landscape.

Conclusion:

If you want to try the Mysterium VPN for free with test tokens, you can use it on most devices apart from iOS currently.

As someone who lives in a region with restricted internet freedoms, I think the ability to integrate a TOR style network into any DApp or app is really cool and look forward to seeing more work from Mysterium.
