At first it resembles 'The Bitcoin Standard with a solid and fascinating history of money and its development but following that Broken Money covers many areas that TBS did not.

It covers in greater detail how the current fiat monetary system came into being and how the current system now appears unsustainable. In particular I found interesting the authors interpretation of how the USA/USDs current effective global monetary hegemony has corrupted the US economy by undermining productive capital allocation and sustaining extraordinary trade and fiscal deficits. The fiat system has delivered huge power and wealth but ultimately has become a curse.

The unique nature of Bitcoin in contrast to shitcoins and fiat is well covered as is the 'energy use' FUD around POW.

The author covers the development of Bitcoin up to the present day and assesses the risks it still faces such as state - regulatory-attack-bans, corporate capture (via mining equipment concentration) and possible code malfunction.

The history of Order 6102 is given as a clear precedent for how the US government has previously cancelled private property rights (gold ownership) in order too support its and the banking sectors monetary power.

This is continued with the development of CBDCs and the threat they potentially present to

civil liberties and freedoms we might take for granted in western countries.

The authors viewpoint is that Bitcoin represents a mechanism which protects our individual rights while CBDCs threaten to significantly reduce them.

The power the state gains from the current fiat system and the potentially even greater power the state can gain via CBDCs directly contrasts with the increased monetary sovereignty that Bitcoin enables for individuals and communities.
