Lewis Capaldi goes blockchain/NFT ticketing

Lewis Capaldi is yet another artist that sees the benefits of NFT ticketing. Today it's been announced that XTIXS will be ticketing his show in Iceland. The ticket sale goes live on May 12th.

XTIXS is one of the integrators of GET protocol. This means that GET protocol provides the entire ticketing infrastracture, which also includes all tickets being NFTs.

On GET's ticket explorer you'll be able to watch the ticket sale as well as track the entire lifecycle of each ticket (minted, resold, checked-in, ... as well as the price history).

The beauty of GET protocol is that it completely eliminates ticket scalping. It gives the event organizer full control of the secondary market. This means that they can set a resale cap and/or put the profit made in the secondary market in the hands of the artist.

Another beautiful thing is that the person buying a ticket doesn't need to know anything about blockchain. The interface can be used by anyone. The buyer pays with fiat and the ticket lands in his app. A little before the show starts he receives a rotating qr code (changes every few seconds) which will be his right of entry. If he wishes to offer the ticket up for sale, he can do so in the app at preset rules. He remains anonymous to the buyer and the buyer doesn't know who's selling. The only way to transfer the right of entry/rotating QR code is through the app. The ticket is linked to the phone and phone number. Selling a screenshot of the QR code through other channels for example won't work.

The NFT can be claimed after the show is over (and ticket has been scanned) and is completely optional. One doesn't need the NFT to enjoy the show. Having one can be benefitial though:

• hold the ticket as a collectible
• trade it (special metadata can be added to certain tickets)
• fan engagement
• governance (an artist can have NFT ticket owners vote on certain topics)

Another beauty of NFT ticketing is that it allows for event financing. To eliminate TicketMaster's monopoly the smaller players will need capital as it's one of the requirements by some big event organizers. They need money upfront and retail will be able to pre-finance shows of their desire and reap the profits.

GET protocol has processed close to 2 million tickets to date, 11 ticketing companies have integrated it and there's a long list of companies integrating it right now.
I believe NFT ticketing is one of the main areas where blockchain, crypto and NFTs will go mainstream. It's important that this is a frictionless process and that the ticket buyers, artists, event organizers, ... only experience the benefits without for example needing a Metamask wallet or interacting with smart contracts.
