Ledger claiming to be Open Source? "WE ARE OPEN SOURCE AND DEVELOPER-FRIENDLY"

All Cryptocurrencies

What am I even reading??

As you know there has been alot of discussion about Ledger over the newest firmware, which is confirming that they could have access to your personal keys if you "opt in" for their new offered services.

During all of this discussion, Ledger themselves & the community has made it clear that Ledger is NOT open source. Due to this as well as the newest FW update, users are choosing to move away from Ledger and begin using confirmed Open Source companies such as Trezor, etc..

I purchased a Ledger Nano S+ about 4-5 months ago wanting to securely hold my crypto on a cold storage device. Leading up to this purchase, ultimately I heard nothing but good things about Ledger, as it was highly recommended by plenty of users via the r/CC sub.

Then Ledger decided they wanted more money, and to betray the trust of thousands of users, just to "help" people who are scared of loosing their keys.

Now I don't know how to feel about Ledger, learning that they were not open source definitely made me feel sus of Ledgers long term intentions.

Just last night I found my box that my Nano S+ showed up in, displaying on the back of the box; "WE ARE OPEN SOURCE AND DEVELOPER-FRIENDLY"

Since when?? Did Ledger used to be OS 4-5 months ago when my device was purchased?

Can anyone else confirm if they see this statement on their product packaging?

I will include a photo of my Ledger Nano S+ packaging in a comment below:
