I have always based my certainty about Bitcoin on the security of the SHA-256 protocol. Until recently, I would have been sure that quantum computers were still too far away to worry about now.
Having said that, with the rapid evolution of artificial intelligence, humanity could really make enormous progress in a very short time, unimaginable until now. IA, coupled with very powerful computers, has the potential to advance human knowledge exponentially.
What could happen if, within a few years, we could already develop futuristic quantum super-computers with new quantum algorithms? This is not a good scenario for the security of the Bitcoin network.
I know that there are some proposals for post-quantum hash functions that are designed to resist quantum attacks, such as BLAKE2 or SHA-3, but will Bitcoin be able to integrate them? I love bitcoin and I want it to live forever.
