I made this tool to make it easy to move your Vault address to a hardware wallet.

I made this post describing how to change your Reddit Vault address to your own address, which Reddit doesn't officially support, and now have the process available as a tool to make it simpler to do.

Here is the Link

Note that the process of changing your Vault address involves proving ownership of the new address with a signature -- in other words, it's quite hard to fuck this up, even if you actively tried to. No valid signature = no changes.

It is fully self-contained and never connects to the internet, so feel free to read the code or download to run it offline.

This results in a fully functional Vault address, on a hardware wallet, with a seed that was created on the hardware wallet and never exposed online. Your profile NFTs will work and distributions continue to work.

In-app tipping, buying subscriptions, and the Vault page on the Reddit app will no longer work, you'll get an error saying the recovery key is missing. You can still tip directly via Metamask and of course simply go through the tool again to change addresses if you ever need to do so again.

Hopefully this is helpful to someone :)

Edit: Works great on my account and my friend's account, so any issues lmk as the testing was fairly limited.

---------------------

"is it safe to connect?"

This tool asks to connect to your wallet because is the only way to interface with a hardware wallet. Connecting isn't usually a big deal, it allows the connected app to see the address that you connected and its balance. The thing to be careful of is approvals/signatures, so...

"is it safe to sign?"

The message you're signing is from Reddit directly, and it's super simple, not a contract interaction, and only includes 4 things (your new vault address, your username, an expiration date 5 minutes in the future, and a nonce), and a header that uniquely identifies it as being from Reddit. The message only looks long at a glance -- in reality most of it isn't actual message data but rather just formatting info. I have zero control over this decision, but a valid signature on those images is required for Reddit to register your vault. The Reddit app does it too, just quietly.
