Have you ever wondered, what else (except crypto) crypto people talked about on Reddit? I did, so I checked out the data!

All Cryptocurrencies

What do people on this sub do on Reddit, other than hang out on here? I was curious, so I checked it out on subredditstats. The results were a mix of predictable and interesting.

Subredditstats provides you with a score for each sub, "the scores listed are "probability multipliers", so a score of 2 means that users of cryptocurrency are twice as likely to post and comment on that subreddit". So the higher the score, the more similar the user bases are.

The top subs are, not very surprising, either specific coin subs (the top ones are nanocurrency (36.19), banano (35.11), cardano (33.10), vechain (32.75) and ethereum (31.70)) or other general crypto subs (like cryptocurrencies (35.86) and cryptomarkets (35.72)). The top 24 are all directly crypto related. I was personally surprised that ethtrader (29.07) was "only" at rank 8, I thought moon and donut farmers would overlap so much to make it even higher. fortnitebr (1.17) is way down the list, moons and bricks don't seem to overlap.

Starting from #25, other investment and economy-subs come in, stuff like stockmarket (7.74), investing (6.59) and stocks (6.35). Interestingly, wallstreetbets (3.70) is somewhat high, but far from one of the most connected investment subs. The first sub that cannot directly be connected to crypto, investing, or the economy in general is poker (3.45) at #41. This surprised me, but I guess it's the "making money" aspect here as well. Similarly pokemontcg (Pokemon Trading Card Game, 2.22) comes in at #80 - as far as I know those cards are mostly collectibles that get traded for a lot of money nowadays?

A few country-subreddits are in the top 100 as well, austria (2.60), thenetherlands (2.56), portugal (2.49), belgium (2.21) and northernireland (2.07). All western European, I guess they like crypto? Another topic that I wouldn't have expected to be featured this strongly are drugs and supplements, nootropics (2.62), supplements (2.58), steroids (2.56), mushroomgrowers (2.10) and dmt (2.07) are all solidly in the top 100 (yes, I had to look some of them up as well). Mostly performance-enhancing stuff.

Finally, the stuff I was curious about and the reason I looked this up: which politics-related subs are on top? Well, my suspicions were correct, the top ones are goldandblack (discussion of Anarcho-Capitalism and Libertarianism, 2.85), anarcho_capitalism (2.53), collapse (Discussion regarding the potential collapse of global civilization, 2.49) and, of course (although further down the list than I would have thought), conspiracy (2.00). So a lot of unreflective 'politics bad' combined with conspiratory thinking. A very toxic combination that, however, explains a lot of the content on here.

Those categories make up the vast majority of the top 100, the rest are a few tech-and-science-related subs and a bit of random stuff that wasn't all that interesting to me, but you can check out the full list above. The least connected subs, however, were somewhat interesting (values of 0.10 and less) - almost exclusively porn! I guess with all the chart porn you don't need those!
