FYI: investing what you can afford to lose is not the same as investing what youre comfortable losing

see title. lets make it clear: investing what you can AFFORD to lose is NOT the same as investing what you are COMFORTABLE losing.

for example, lets say you saved up $5000 for a nice vacation somewhere, after working lots of overtime and dealing with the usual BS drama and stress that comes with your workplace. you definitely need some time off at a beach far, far away. then you read up on the news, find out the next hot thing on the block, and decide "you know, if i had more i could go to an even nicer place." so you throw all your vacation money into some coin...and guess what? it dumps. and you think to yourself, "im gonna hold this until a week before i leave, it should be up by then." the day comes, and you cash out your whole bag...worth $3500: $1500 less than what you have before". ah shit, you say. now youre going to have to change your plans, or throw more money into your vacation to make up for the loss. "what a pain in the ass, crypto fucking sucks!", you say.

now youll still get your vacation, its money you can afford to lose after all. but you may not be staying at the hotel you originally wanted to, and now youre inconvenienced.

now if that person took, say, $300 instead out of the $5000, and it didnt work out and ended up pulling out $150, "ok no big deal, i just wont order room service meals for 2 days".

thats the difference.

of course, dont put what you cant afford to lose, dont put your rent or car payment on the line. self explanatory.

TLDR: alot of people invest what they can afford to lose, then lose sleep at night when they lose it. others invest what they cant afford to lose, then end up having no place to sleep.
