Exploring the Ecosystem 3: Non-Arbitrum Rollup DeFi

This is the followup to my previous post covering Arbitrum’s DeFi ecosystem.

Ethereum Rollup DeFi App Rundown

*Excluding Arbitrum since I covered that in my last post.

In this post I’ll attempt to give a comprehensive overview of the available DeFi applications running on Ethereum rollups today. If I’ve missed an app you love, please comment and I’ll add it! Also if I've incorrectly summarized an app let me know and I'll edit.

First, some disclaimers.

1. This list is for informational purposes only. I am not personally endorsing any of these apps with this post, it is simply to let you know that they exist.
2. The goal here is to let you know the options available and enable further research. DYOR before investing!
3. As I outlined in my first post, most rollups are in beta. Understand the risks associated with that before moving assets to them.
4. Be careful following links from anyone, even me. Hover over each link to verify that it’s going to an appropriate URL, and verify that it’s the correct app URL with another source before connecting your wallet.

So let’s dive in!

dYdX – StarkEx

dYdX is an application-specific StarkEx rollup running a perpetuals exchange DEX. You transfer stablecoins into the protocol, and then you can trade perpetuals backed by those stablecoins for extremely low fees with optional leverage.

Metis Andromeda

• Netswap – DEX with liquidity pooling and yield farming
• Tethys – DEX with liquidity pooling and yield farming
• Standard – DEX with pooling, farming, staking, and bridging functionality
• Pickle Finance - Yield farming with LP tokens

Loopring

Loopring is currently an application-specific L2 DEX with liquidity pooling. You can bridge funds in via mainnet or via the Ramp Network fiat onramp and then trade on the DEX for very low fees. They also have an L2 smart wallet app and are planning to add an L2 NFT marketplace.

Optimism

• Lyra - AMM/DEX for options trading
• Synthetix - synthetic asset minting and trading platform with value tied to real-world assets
• Perpetual Protocol - perpetual DEX offering up to 10x leverage
• Uniswap – It’s Uniswap!
• 1inch - DEX aggregator that aims to route you through the cheapest trades
• Kwenta - part of the Synthetix ecosystem, Kwenta is a DEX for trading derivatives and synths
• Juggler – DEX with liquidity pooling
• Matcha - DEX aggregator which aims to route you through the cheapest trades
• Mt. Pelerin - fiat onramp, unfortunately doesn’t support USA
• Pika – perpetual swap exchange with up to 50x leverage
• Rubicon Finance - orderbook DEX with liquidity pooling
• Slingshot – orderbook DEX
• Thales - Binary options trading DEX
• WePiggy - multi-collateral asset loan platform
• dForce - DEX with lending, farming, and synthetic assets

Boba Network

• Oolong Swap - DEX with LPs, farming, and staking
• Theta Nuts – Vault farming
• Autofarm - automated yield farming
• Zencha - DEX with LP and farming
• Swapperchan – DEX with LPs, farming, staking, and bridging

zkspace AKA zkSwap

zkSwap is a zkSync fork that has built on a Uniswap-esque DEX with L2 pooling as well as an NFT market.

Deversifi – StarkEx

DeversiFi is an application specific StarkEx rollup running an L2 DEX with traditional liquidity pooling options. There are also options for yield-bearing tokens on DeversiFi, all with extremely low fees.

zkSync

• ZigZag Exchange - L2 orderbook DEX with bridging functionality
• Argent Smart Wallet - Wallet app with access to yield-bearing DeFi tokens and a fiat on-ramp, all on zkSync layer 2

And of course, bridges. There is a huge number of bridge apps and I don’t think it’s particularly helpful for me to just list them all here, so I’ll link a pre-made list from Li.Finance, a bridge aggregator app:
