I just read a paper on the deflationary economy in Japan the last couple of decades.
There seems to be consensus that deflation is bad. The problem seems to be that credit obligations increases in value and collateral(property) decreases in value when there is deflation, making it harder to profit of investments. This leads to less investment and spending and a stagnant economy.
There is also a problem with the rigid lower bound on wages (0% increase). Workers won't accept wage decreases. Making it harder for businesses to stay in profit as their nominal income is reduced while wages stay the same.
Bitcoiners in general seem like proponents of deflation. I'm a bitcoin maxi myself.
But I'm having trouble reconciling the above mentioned problems of deflation with the optimistic view of bitcoiners.
Any thoughts?
