Does ledger hardware wallet support layer 2?

For ETH layer 1, I anyway plug my ledger to metamask to use it as interfaces. When people say ledger supports layer 1 but not layer 2, what does it mean? Should I transfer optimism coins to ledger? Or they will be gone? submitted by /u/...
