Monero (XMR) is mined by CPU, not graphics cards. You can do it, but it’s inefficient and not worth it.
So there’s been little effect on the supply of GPUs and as far as I can tell, there is no warehouses full of CPUs mining Monero.
There might be private individuals doing small scale farms, but there’s nothing industrial using tons of energy and getting a disproportionate say in things as far as governance goes, keeping it extremely decentralized.
Bitcoin was intended to be mined on people’s home computers, but the nature of Bitcoin allowed a way around that.
Monero on the other hand has defense against ASICs and the developers actively fight it. It remains something that is mostly mined by the common person. Monero is a peak POW and shows it can work in the right context.
You’re not going to reel in $100 a week monero mining, but it adds up if you leave it alone and let your computer mine to a pool while you aren’t using it.
