Hi all,
So it appears there has been some kind of data dump/ leak in crypto that has released my data regarding my email and phone number associated to an exchange.
I have got a phone call from what I suspect (100%) is a scammer who has told me my wallet with my Bitcoin in it will be shut down if I do not transfer 0.015 btc into that wallet in the next two months.
I wanted to know how much info they had so I played along and it appears they just have an email and phone number for me as they asked how much bitcoin I had and I told them I had three in the wallet they were looking at and she told me it’s actually 4.2 BTC. Now this is clearly not true as I’ve never even got to 0.1 BTC in my life before.
They said they will send through an email from [email protected]. With instructions on how I can ensure I keep my 4.2 BTC. Which I have received along with oddly a registration under my name for Coinpanda the crypto tax company?
Now I haven’t opened either email as I don’t want possible malware? (No wallet keys are online not have ever been but being safe) But essentially I was wondering if there is a way to play along and somehow scam them or get them caught or basically anything to stop them trying this on other people as these scammers are a big problem in our community.
So if anyone has any ideas that would be great? Or if you think it’s best I just ignore it and move on with my life.
tl;dr - Scammers contacted me can I scam them or stop them from doing it in the future or should I leave it?
