You got it right, but just to clarify, you aren't really moving anything.
When switching between two wallets that are incompatible (for example from a non BIP 39 wallet such as Electrum to most any other wallet which recognizes BIP39) it might be easiest to send the coins from the old wallet to the new in an on chain transaction.
In your case the new version of electrum will recognize the seed from the old without a hitch. Previously you held your private keys on the old machine, now you hold them on both the old and new machines. It is the same as restoring a wallet from a seed phrase backup and your bitcoins remain undisturbed on the blockchain.
