According to California Police, an influencer that wants to remain anonymous was scammed for $1.26 Million. The scammer called his victim at home and used his knowledge of current investigations in a crypto scam against the influencer to make her agree to a settlement payment, which had to be done using 25,200 50$ Walmart gift cards.
Police says it remains unknown how the victim was able to buy that many gift cards within a single day without noticing the scam. For this she visited more than 30 Walmart stores, and many store owners tried to warn her - but to the scammers luck the influencer doesn't talk with regular people.
The scam first went unnoticed for several weeks until the victim was contacted again by a real SEC agent. While there is little hope for the scammer to be ever identified, his pseudonym was found out to be "Ben A." - a trace that sadly turned out to be a dead end.
