Seems every wallet (mobile and non) supports the standard but for some reason the most popular wallet doesn't. The standard was designed to allow for URLs to be able to pass requests to wallets. Why not just do that through web3? Well because then you need to first connect a wallet.
We are designing a payment system and upon scan for a qr we want to be able to redirect / have the wallet automatically open. Thats great with mobile but when a desktop user opens the link they cant just have MM open with address, they need to open MM, paste address then pay.
Standards like these may not seem to be important but every step we remove from the payment and use process helps open access to more users.
